Considering biodiesel?

Considering biodiesel?
Check your options and possible problems before you do.

Biodiesel is a sustainable, clean-burning diesel replacement that is reducing the dependence on imported diesel, producing green jobs and improving the environment. It is made from a progressively diverse mix of resources including agricultural oils, recycled cooking oil and animal fats and meets stringent specs.

How is biodiesel made? Biodiesel is made through a chemical process called transesterification where the glycerin is separated from the fat or vegetable oil. The process leaves behind two products - methyl esters (the chemical name for biodiesel) and glycerin (an important byproduct usually sold to be utilized in soaps and other products).

Biodiesel is even better for the environment since it is made from sustainable resources and has lower discharges compared to petroleum diesel. It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as quick as sugar. Because it is made locally from sustainable resources such as soybeans, its use reduces our dependence on foreign oil and contributes to our own economy.
